Overview :
SHADOW is an innovative combination product that provides the most powerful natural free radical scavengers. Extensive evidence supporting the efficacy of these ingredients scientifically proves that SHADOW is an advanced combination for safe and effective outdoor protection. It supports healthy immune function, minimizes cell destruction caused by oxidative stress, augments anti–inflammatory function and reduces skin damage caused by UV radiant.
Clinical trials indicated that after resistance exercise, a mixture of whey protein, amino acids, and carbohydrates stimulated muscle protein synthesis to a greater extent than carbohydrates alone. The addition of protein to an amino acid–carbohydrate mixture may also extend the anabolic effect. Because amino acids stimulate muscle protein synthesis, amino acid or protein supplements are essential to promote muscle anabolism after exercise.

Superoxide Dismutase (SOD)
GliSODin® (Superoxide dismutase/Gliadin complex) -a novel natural antioxidant- is one of the three functional ingredients in SHADOW. GliSODin® is the result of 17 years of product development in Europe. It is made from the combination of a SODextracted from melon (Cucumis melo) as the active ingredient and wheat (Triticum vulgare) gliadin as the carrier which protects the enzyme from breakdown by stomach acid.
This novel product boasts a powerful antioxidative effect and protects against oxidative stress-induced cell death. GliSODin® was evaluated by many well-designed human clinical trials as being an effective antioxidant and immune system modulator. Orally effective SOD—wheat gliadin complex is able to protect against DNA damage according to a double-blind randomised placebo–controlled study.
Recent studies indicate significant protection against UV-radiation induced oxidative stress and quicker healing compared to a placebo after oral administration of GliSODin®.
Orally active SODderivative also prevents tumour progression promoted by inflammation which is thought to be through an inflammatory cell-derived super oxide anion scavenging system.
“GliSODin® is the first line of natural defense system against free radicals.”
Green tea polyphenols
SHADOW™ also contains a high concentration of green tea polyphenols that possess biologic activity in antioxidant, antiangiogenesis, and antiproliferative assays.
There have been more than 150 studies regarding the beneficial effects of green tea on the skin. It was found that green tea polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin–3–gallate (EGCG), inhibited two–stage chemical carcinogenesis and photo carcinogenesis induced by UVB.
Studies show that oral consumption of green tea polyphenols inhibits UV–induced skin tumorigenesis and possesses anti–inflammatory activity. It also decreases oxidative DNA damage, lipid peroxidation and free radical generation.
Green tea components also have potent anti–microbial effects.

Calaguala fern extract
The percolated extract of a tropical fern is another component of SHADOW™ formula. Calaguala fern extract has proven application in many autoimmune disorders. Recent studies to determine its chemical composition have shown many phenolic compounds that may contribute to the health benefits of this powerful UV protectant.
In addition, preclinical and clinical research has shown that Calaguala extract modulates the immune/inflammatory response and prevents UV-induced skin cancer in several animal models, perhaps by reducing DNA damage. Calaguala has been used in the management of inflammatory skin diseases for more than 30 years .
“Calaguala rhizome extract is also used in alternative medicine for the treatment of Vitiligo and Psoriasis.”
Red Wine Extract
Red Wine Extract is a powerful anti oxidant. It prevents cells from damage and help the body against cardiovascular and inflammatory disorders. It helps fight obesity, and helps people with Alzheimer’s disease. Resveratrol in red wine extract prevents UV damage to skin. Resveratrol treatment resulted in significant downregulation in UV-mediated increases in these critical cell cycle regulatory proteins. Studies suggested that resveratrol imparts chemopreventive effects against UV-B exposure-mediated damages in skin.
Niacinamide
As skin ages, the body no longer supplies enough nutrients to the skin, partly because the density of blood vessels reaching the dermis decreases. The effect of Niacinamide on inflammation is through inhibition of histamine release by mast cells, neutrophil chemotaxis, and release of inflammatory mediators. Niacinamide also appears to have some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In recent studies it has been shown to protect the skin’s immune cells during UV exposure. It has demonstrated the ability to alleviate early indicators of sun damage, such as blotchy brown pigmentation, fine lines, and rough, uneven texture. Used daily, niacinamide may play an important part in prevention and treatment of some signs of premature ageing.
Lycopene
Lycopene is a natural compound that belongs to carotenes which are plant pigments. They are able to scavenge free radicals and block visible and UV-light. Lycopene may be the best free radical scavenger among carotens. In recent years, a number of studies indicated a variety of health benefits of lycopene, including reduced risk of cancer, heart diseases and other chronic conditions. In addition to protecting cells from free radical damage, lycopene may produce its beneficial effect by other means, such as improving the function of cell-to-cell junctions and some aspects of cell metabolism. Being fat soluble, lycopene appears to be particularly effective in the tissues with high fat and lipid content.
